Published by Blaeu, 1630
This magnificent re-creation of an original map by Guiljelmo Blaeuw (Blaeu) from his Atlas Major of 1630 is a classic mapping of the Asian continent from the 17th century. Exquisitely engraved, the map features decorative vignettes of people indigenous to various regions, sea-going vessels of trade and exploration, and monsters and mythological creatures of the deep.
The map features a complete, if occasionally inaccurate, representation of the islands of Indonesia, reflecting the intense political interest in trade in the region at the time of its publication.
