"Carte De L'Isle De St. Christophe"

Published by Jacques Nicolas Bellin, 1764

Printed by Lahaina Printsellers, Ltd., 2016

This reproduction of the beautifully-engraved copperplate "Carte De L'Isle De St. Christophe" was originally published in 1764 by Jacques Bellin in his Histoire Generale Des Voyages. Bellin surveyed all the known coasts of the world after being appointed Ingénieur Hydrographe de la Marine in the French Hydrographic Service.

Shown in detail is the island of Saint Christopher. Originally named by Christopher Columbus in 1492, the French settled on Saint Kitts in 1627.

After a long power struggle, the island became a British possession in 1783, and was finally granted independence one hundred years later.

We custom-print this facsimile map on waterproof canvas in our Lahaina studio using the finest archival inks, which are tested and guaranteed not to fade or shift under normal circumstances for over 100 years. Modern printing techniques allow us to improve and enhance the historical subject matter, even as we're careful to preserve and maintain its historical and artistic integrity.
