"Islands in the Atlantic"

Published by SDUK, 1836

Printed by Lahaina Printsellers, Ltd., 2016

This superior reproduction of "Islands in the Atlantic" was originally published by the SDUK in 1836.

Shown (with original spellings) are the Azores, Canary Islands, Faeroe Isles, Madeira Isles, Princes Island, Fernando Po, Anno Bon, St. Thomas, Ascension Island, St. Helena, Tristan D'Acunha Isles, Bermuda Isles, Trinidade, Fernando Noronha, Falkland Isles and Cape de Verde Isles.

This chart is a fine example of the fascinating and highly-accurate series of maps issued in London between 1830 and 1850 by the Society for the Diffusion of Useful Knowledge, commonly known as the SDUK.

The Society was formed in March 1828, by the publisher Charles Knight and Henry Brougham, a radical politician and reformer. During its lifetime, the SDUK was extremely active and published numerous informative works.

Their publications were inexpensive texts, as their goal was to bring scientific and similarly high-minded material to the working and middle classes.

We custom-print this facsimile map on waterproof canvas in our Lahaina studio using the finest archival inks, which are tested and guaranteed not to fade or shift under normal circumstances for over 100 years. Modern printing techniques allow us to improve and enhance the historical subject matter, even as we're careful to preserve and maintain its historical and artistic integrity.
