Published by John Blaeu, 1640
John Blaeu assumed control of his family's publishing house upon the death of his father, Willem, in 1638. This was the only map of the British Isles produced during his command of the company, issuing this superlative map in 1640.
Though Blaeu relied on Speed's 1611 map as a source, this facsimile of the original is generally considered to be one of the finest maps produced in the 17th century.
