"Map of the Oregon Territory"

Published by Parker, 1838

Samuel Parker first published this wonderful map in his Journal of an Exploring Tour beyond the Rocky Mountains in 1838. It was an account of his travels with a fur trading party from Council Bluffs, Iowa to Walla Walla, Washington.

In this handsome reproduction, the locations of the Indian tribes and nations are marked; the major settlement is Fort George or Astoria at the mouth of the Columbia River. Parker's map was partially responsible of inspiring a great movement of immigrants to settle in the Oregon Territory in the 1840's.
