"Nova Totius Terrarum Orbis Geographica"

Published by Blaeu, 1630

Printed by Lahaina Printsellers, Ltd., 2016

Willem Blaeu first published this original map entitled "Nova Totius Terrarum Orbis Geographica" in 1630. In its combination of exuberant decoration and geographic sophistication, many consider Blaeu's world map as the peak of Dutch map-making.

In this superb reproduction, finely engraved border panels depict various classical gods along the top, representations of the seasons are on the right, the elements are illustrated on the left, and on the bottom, the Seven Wonders of the World are superbly rendered. Other decorative elements include numerous ships, sea monsters, compass roses, and three cartouches.

We custom-print this facsimile map on waterproof canvas in our Lahaina studio using the finest archival inks, which are tested and guaranteed not to fade or shift under normal circumstances for over 100 years. Modern printing techniques allow us to improve and enhance the historical subject matter, even as we're careful to preserve and maintain its historical and artistic integrity.
