"Nova Totius Terrarum Orbis Tabula"

Published by de Wit, 1750

Printed by Lahaina Printsellers, Ltd., 2016

This superb reproduction of a copperplate engraving, "Nova Totius Terrarum Orbis Tabula" was originally published by Dankerts in 1680.

The double hemisphere map, with two small polar maps, has large and lively scenes allegorically representing the four elements. Fire is shown by war and destruction, air by the heavens, earth by harvesting and husbandry, and water by ships.

The western hemisphere shows California as an island.

We custom-print this facsimile map on waterproof canvas in our Lahaina studio using the finest archival inks, which are tested and guaranteed not to fade or shift under normal circumstances for over 100 years. Modern printing techniques allow us to improve and enhance the historical subject matter, even as we're careful to preserve and maintain its historical and artistic integrity.
