"Nova Totius Terrarum Orbis Tabula"

Published by Danckerts, 1680

Printed by Lahaina Printsellers, Ltd., 2016

Danckerts originally published this splendid map from a copperplate engraving in 1680.

The double hemisphere map, inset with two smaller polar maps, has large and lively scenes allegorically representing the four elements: War and destruction symbolize fire; harvesting and husbandry embody the Earth; the Heavens are depicted by Air, and ships represent the Water element.

In this splendid facsimile, the western hemisphere map indicates California as an island.

We custom-print this facsimile map on waterproof canvas in our Lahaina studio using the finest archival inks, which are tested and guaranteed not to fade or shift under normal circumstances for over 100 years. Modern printing techniques allow us to improve and enhance the historical subject matter, even as we're careful to preserve and maintain its historical and artistic integrity.
