Published by Visscher, 1685
This reproduction of a rare 17th century copper plate engraving was originally published by Nicolaes the II, third heir to the founder of Visscher publishing house. Europeans were extremely interested in maps such as this as their hunger for any information about the "New World" was practically insatiable.
With a wonderful cartouche serving to both decorate the map and inform the viewer, this map was typical of great Dutch cartographers such as the Visscher's of Amsterdam.
