This superb reproduction of a finely wrought steelplate engraving "New Orleans" from William Cullen Bryant's PICTURESQUE AMERICA was originally published by D. Appleton & Co., New York, circa 1872-4.

The artist, Alfred R. Wuad, depicts merchants, sailors, and cargo on the docks of the bustling seaport of New Orleans. In the background, Mississippi River boats and ocean-going barques complete this scene. The original engraving is by D. George Thompson.
