Wahine Falls by Katherine Queen
“Thought- provoking and whimsical.”
Maui Artist Katherine Queen, brings island dreams to life using surrealism and acrylic paint. Her paintings connect humans to nature, telling island stories, beyond the boundaries of time and space.
Katherine loves to live paint on Front Street in Lahaina Town, her favorite part is seeing the way the gears turn behind the eyes of her audience. “I love watching people freely entertain ideas. Art can really loosen people up and let their inner ‘little kid’ free… even if it’s just temporary. Art is an escape.”
Katherine is inspired by Lady Pele, the symbols of the Akua, and building the connection between humans and their nature.
What is a Mirrored Print & Gallery Wrap?
Canvas for Gallery Wrap
Take a good look at your print; it may look a bit unusual near the edges. We print an extra 2½ inches of reflected “mirrored” borders, to ensure that when it is stretched, the finished product does not lose any of the actual art! This also allows you to choose stretcher bar frames in a variety of thickness up to 2″ deep with your framer.
If you have purchased a non-mirrored canvas to gallery wrap, you may lose important parts of the art, such as signatures. Typically we suggest framing artwork smaller than 16″x20″ rather than stretching it as a gallery wrap.
Custom Wood Frames
If you prefer the contemporary look in your home, we have a variety of wood frames to choose from. Walnut, Cherry, Black and White frames are custom made in house to order, with a 1.5″ – 1.75″ width on each side, it compliments the artwork for any artist, photographer or map.
Hand-made Rattan Frames
Though the design has changed over the years, we commission these Rattan frames through a small family owned company in The Philippines. Your frame is the result of trial and error of the last 20 years! Rattan is a vine-like Palm that requires forest cover in order to thrive. Rattan grows throughout the jungle for over a quarter of a mile. Its trunk can span a diameter of over two inches down to the thickness of a human hair. The harvester’s collection process is performed by hand by a simple machete. Ultimately, the rattan vine cannot survive without the forest. Rattan quickly regenerates. As a result, this method of harvesting protects the destruction of the forest.
